If you are interested in learning more about the faculty-led study class and trip to Uruguay next semester, please come to this information session. The course, GDEV 3502/5502 Development in Action, will be co-taught by Professor Scott Peters and Mary Jo Dudley, Director of the Cornell Farmworker Program. Special guests include our faculty colleagues from the Universidad de la República (Udelar), Professor Maria Eugenia Bove and Professor Agustín Cano Menoni.  Both are serving as Cornell Visiting Professors this semester.

Eugenia and Agustín will provide an overview of our plans for engaging with students and community members while we are in Uruguay.  They will also offer an overview of Uruguay’s history and current situation, its national university, and the capital city of Montevideo where we will be spending most of our time.

Community engagement is central to the mission of the Universidad de la República, in parallel with its educational, scientific and cultural missions. Each year, many extension and community engagement projects address different topics, including agroecology, social and popular education, education in prisons, housing rights, urban, environmental and rural problems, and cooperative processes, among others.

Here is the full description of the class and application form.
