Transfer Option Course Requirements
Important Information Regarding Course Requirements
- Required courses must be completed for a grade and credit; courses taken as satisfactory/unsatisfactory or pass/fail will not fulfill requirements.
- Required coursework should be taken during the academic year.
- In some cases, AP or IB credit may be used to fulfill required course requirements. Please use the CALS Transfer Credit Policy to see which scores will count for credit. Note: Placing out of a course at your first institution may not fulfill a course requirement for the CALS Transfer Option, you must meet Cornell's minimum score to receive credit.
- Quarter System – CALS semester system awards quarter system credits by calculating .67 credits per credit of study at an institution on the quarter system. A 5-credit quarter system course is equivalent to a 3 credit semester course.
- Please use your best judgment in selecting your courses. To help with this process, we encourage you do the following:
- Compare course descriptions from your institution with Cornell courses by viewing the Courses of Study
- The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Cornell University reserve the right to determine, in their sole discretion, whether course credit earned at other schools, either secondary or post-secondary, meet the College’s and the University’s academic standards and will therefore be eligible to be applied toward Cornell requirements. Applicants and matriculated students should not assume that, because a particular course taken at another school is listed as a recommended course, a foundational course, or that it meets admissions requirements; it would necessarily be eligible for Cornell credit.
