Agritourism Outreach and Case Studies

This summer internship opportunity is focused around agritourism future outreach and case studies.  The selected intern will be working with Harvest NY staff to:

  • Update past case studies from the 1990's on agritourism operations that was created by Cornell.  The case studies will show how these agritourism operations have grown over time.
  • Develop new case studies around the following-School Tours, Open Farm Day, U-Pick Fruit, Corn Maze, Flower Farm, trails, etc. 

Another goal of the project the intern will work on is to create a statewide database of agritourism operations that will be used for marketing educational programs and be used in the future when needed to provide agritourism operations data to state agencies. 
 

Roles and responsibilities 

The student intern will be expected to create case studies and a comprehensive database of agritourism operations. While in the extension office they will be encouraged to engage and learn about other opportunities that are available at CCE. 
 

Qualifications and previous coursework

This opportunity is available to non-graduating students in Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

  • The ideal candidate would be able to use excel and word.
  • They should be comfortable to interview people as the case studies will require one-on-one interviews with agritourism operations either in person or via phone/zoom.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a car is strongly preferred as driving will be required on behalf of the project

Learning outcomes 

As a result of the internship, the student intern will:

  • Gain knowledge of the agritourism industry which is currently at over 947 operations in New York
  • The student will learn the value of case studies and how the information collected can inform agritourism operations in the future
