Ann Charles Vegdahl
Extension Associate, Cornell AgriTech, Food Science

Ann Charles Vegdahl works as an Extension Associate in the Department of Food Science at Cornell University. She oversees two major food microbiology extension programs: the Cornell Microbial Food Safety, Quality and Outreach Program and the Cornell High Pressure Processing Validation Center at Cornell AgriTech. Dr. Charles Vegdahl and her team support the food industry by analyzing over 500 products annually, conducting microbial shelf life studies, pathogen validation studies, and other projects as requested.
She works closely with other researchers, government regulators, food processors and is involved in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts in her department, on campus and in her community. Outside of work, you will find her walking her dogs and spending time with her family.
Extension Responsibilities
- Provide food microbiology testing and technical expertise for start-up and established food companies primarily in NY and beyond through:
- Affordable and accessible microbiology tests like shelf life studies, HPP Validation studies, challenges study and other projects as requested.
- Direct interaction (virtual/email/phone) by answering questions and troubleshooting issues.
- Educational workshops and webinars (Ex: Juice HACCP)
- Applied research to solve and improve pertinent food safety issues.
