Remote work for faculty and staff
The university has set an expectation to transition faculty and staff to a remote work environment by close of business on Friday, March 20. Shifting as many of our employees as possible to remote roles, along with social distancing, reduces the potential for disease spread in our community. This ultimately protects those employees that must be on campus to take care of animals, plants, conduct or support our research/teaching/extension mission in other critical ways. Our goal is to maximize social distancing. Please take every effort to enable as many employees as feasible to work remotely for the foreseeable future. The college authorizes chairs and directors to begin remote work within their units as soon as they are ready to do so. If you face barriers enabling an employee to work remotely, please reach out to your Human Resources representative or your unit chair or director for assistance.
Here are guidelines and resources to help with the transition.
- Review the COVID-19: Remote Work Guidelines for Employees and share broadly within your units.
If you face barriers enabling an employee to work remotely, please reach out to your Human Resources representative for assistance. We strive to find ways to reduce barriers, and will help you consider staggered shifts, modified schedules, and engage other university resources such as IT to support you in the transition.
- Find your CALS HR representatives.
There is no requirement to create a flex place agreement, spend your time and effort on adapting to this rapidly changing environment, focus on helping employees adapt.
The college is exploring the purchase of wifi hotspots. If you have an employee whose sole barrier to working remotely is internet connectivity, please notify your chair or director by close of business Monday, so they can bring that information to the Tuesday chairs and directors meeting.
