Study Abroad Process
Are you curious about what it means to study abroad? Do you want to study abroad, but are not sure where yet? Do you wonder if you can afford it? What about getting credits toward graduation? Do you want to get in contact with students who already studied abroad? Advisors are ready to answer your questions and support your global journey!
Most students start by browsing program options (see Discover Programs) or by attending a college info session or university-wide events like the International Fair (held typically at the beginning of each semester).

Drop-in or schedule individual advising
The information session is a great place to start and can give you most of the general information you need to get started on your study abroad journey. We are also happy to meet with you to discuss your academics, your goals, and what you are looking for in a program. You can schedule a meeting or attend drop-in advising hours (offered in February only and listed below).
- Tuesday, January 31 from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm ET
- Wednesday, February 15 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm ET
- Thursday, February 16 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm ET
- Friday, February 24 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 - 3:00 pm ET
- Monday, February 27 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am ET
For CALS Exchange, use our online scheduling platform or call 607-255-2257 to make an appointment, or come to our drop-in hours in 140 Roberts Hall (when classes are in session):
For Global Learning opportunities, use their online scheduling platform to meet with an advisor. Global Learning has several advisors, who each manage a specific portfolio of programs by region. You can also use the drop-in hours on Tuesday's and Wednesday's from 3:00-4:00 in B50 Caldwell Hall while classes are in session.
Apply to your preferred program
Once you have chosen your preferred program, you can begin the application process. Select the tile of the program you are interested in and scroll to the bottom. You can access the online application via the “apply” button.
We recommend students apply to only one program—and perhaps a back-up. Your exchange or study abroad advisors can let you know if you need a back-up option to be “safe” and if your back-up option is appropriate. If you choose to apply for a CALS Exchange program, you should not have another application in the system.
Application deadlines:
Fall or Academic Year: March 1
Spring: September 10 (some may be later, depending on program). Need extra time for an exchange program application, please email calsglobal [at] cornell.edutitle="calglobal email" to inquire about a possible extension.
