Two webinars on dairy greenhouse gas (GHG), sponsored by Northeast Dairy Producers Association, Cornell Cooperative Extension, PRO-DAIRY, and NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets were offered in March 2024.

Quantifying nutrient balances and GHG emissions from your dairy

The Nutrient Management Spear Program has worked with around 40 NYS dairy farms to develop whole farm nutrient mass balances (NMBs) using the Cornell NMB calculator and GHG footprint estimate using Cool Farm Tool.  The team:

  1. Shows how with a limited amount of farm data both nutrient and GHG footprints can be determined
  2. Shares preliminary findings from this work
  3. Provides information inviting additional dairy farms to join the project

Reducing GHG emissions from your dairy: Funding programs and energy efficiency opportunities

In support of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act and other policy goals, NYS is providing funds to cost share practices to reduce GHG emissions from dairy farms. This session is divided between Ag and Markets funding programs (Albrecht) and NYSERDA’s ag energy audit program and related energy efficiency and renewable energy funding through USDA programs (Ray).
