Peter Gregory
Adjunct Professor, Department of Global Development
About
Peter Gregory is adjunct professor in the Department of Global Development and previously served as director of the Hubert H, Humphrey Program at Cornell, The Humphrey Program is a one-academic year, non-degree initiative at Cornell and 12 other campuses in the USA that is sponsored by the US Department of State and is managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE). Peter and his team focus on providing outstanding developing country professionals around the globe with opportunities to enhance their leadership potential, managerial skills and scientific knowledge. The Fellows at Cornell are engaged in agriculture, environmental science, and natural resource management.
He enjoys helping Fellows to establish professional contacts at Cornell and elsewhere in the USA that lead to impactful collaborations; many of these continue well beyond the Fellowship year and yield benefits for the USA as well as developing countries. Peter believes that, in this era of global turbulence, a major bonus of the Program is catalyzing improved mutual understanding between the Fellows and Americans as well as within the Fellowship cohort.
Peter’s previous positions include Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics; Assistant Director for Research in CALS; Deputy Director General for Research at the International Potato Center (CIP) in Lima, Peru; Agricultural Advisor at The World Bank in Washington, DC; Director of Biotechnology at the consulting firm Novigen Sciences Inc. (acquired by Exponent), also in DC; and Director for Biotechnology in International Programs-CALS.
Over more than four decades Peter’s work has morphed from laboratory experiments on plant biochemistry to international development with a primary focus on country and regional biotech strategies and capacity building.
