Noreen McAuliffe is a senior lecturer in the Natural Resources and Environment section of the Ashley School of Global Development and the Environment. She is an interdisciplinary writer and researcher in the environmental humanities. Her work focuses on the effects of global environmental change on human and more-than-human lives, and in her teaching she hopes to introduce students to the power of literature and writing to change the conversation around critical environment and sustainability issues. Her academic interests include climate change communication, environmental justice, and re-imagined futures for the planet.
McAuliffe’s commitment to connecting students to their local environments has driven her pedagogical creativity in student engagement outside the classroom space. Her innovative classes structured around experiential learning have received grants at both UW-Madison and Rutgers University. She strives to create engaged experiences in the outdoors for every student.
Prior to joining Cornell, she was a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the English department and the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. At UW-Madison she was the faculty advisor for Edge Effects, a digital magazine of the environmental humanities, and a faculty associate of the Center for History, Culture, and Environment. At Cornell she is an Atkinson Center for Sustainability Faculty Fellow.
