Why are you excited to become a peer mentor?
I’m excited to become a peer mentor because I want to be a resource that I didn’t have upon entering college. As someone who didn’t participate in any pre-freshmen or pre-college program, I often felt alone in navigating certain spaces in college. While it was very difficult at times, it ultimately pushed me to be in the position that am I in today- to pay forward the knowledge I learned from my trials and tribulations. Being a peer mentor for students with a background similar to mine is something that I can do to put a dent in the resource inequities that first-gen, low-income, and marginalized students are subject to. I am excited to build a community with them by sharing tips, resources, and connections.
