Lorena Soares Feijo has received grants to study the following: 

• Immunologic, inflammatory, and endocrine blood parameters that indicate the early stages of natural ascending placentitis in pregnant mares, which allow prompt treatment intervention and increase the chances of carrying the pregnancy until term. 
• The cytotoxic immune competence in the equine neonate and foal, which has relevance in vaccinology and immunity to intracellular pathogens in early age. 

The Harry M. Zweig Memorial Fund for Equine Research is funding both studies.
