Katelyn is the Field Crops and Forage Specialist with the Southwest New York Dairy, Livestock, and Field Crops Program. In her role, she works with on-campus faculty and Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) agricultural educators in the counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, and Steuben to bring timely research-based programming and consultations to the farmers across the region. Her responsibilities include:
- Providing consultations to farmers through phone, email, text, paper mail, and on-farm meetings
- Organizing trainings, including research-oriented field meetings and pesticide recertification points for applicators
- Researching row crop and soils management
- Troubleshooting agronomic and pest related issues in the field with growers and consultants
Katelyn grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Chautauqua County and earned her bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Entrepreneurship from SUNY Alfred State College. Currently, she is utilizing the Employee Degree Program to continue her education to attain her master’s degree in Soil and Crop Sciences at Cornell University. Before joining SWNYDLFC, Katelyn worked with Western New York Crop Management Association (WNYCMA) as a summer crop scout, focusing on corn, soybean and alfalfa production. Her role included scouting for crop population, disease and pest presence, along with weed identification.
