Postdoctoral Associate, Natural Resources and the Environment Section

About

My background as an ecologist has been shaped by fieldwork in Neotropical ecosystems and research in landscapes where human livelihoods are closely connected to nature. I developed a passion for avian ecology during my undergraduate studies and, during graduate school, focused on bird communities in working landscapes. My research has examined how tropical dry forests influence the distribution and abundance of the Honduran Emerald Hummingbird, an endemic species that relies on forest remnants within cattle ranching areas. I have also studied how coffee farm management affects habitat quality for migratory songbirds in Honduras. Currently, as a postdoctoral associate, I use eBird data products to develop quantitative workflows that transform bird community data into insights and tools for conservation practitioners and natural resource managers.

Ph.D. Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Tulane University, 2023

M.S. Biology, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 2017

B.S. Biology, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras, 2012

Recent Research

I am fascinated by research questions that link avian ecology and conservation. My research has focused on understanding how bird species and communities are sustained by ‘working’ lands. I am also interested in migration ecology and participate in initiatives to connect myself and others to research and opportunities for improving the conservation of birds in the Neotropics.
