Andrei Guruianu

As a former newspaper reporter, poet, and creative nonfiction writer, Andrei believes in the possibilities afforded to students through an openness to experimenting with multiple genres and formats as vehicles for creative expression and personal empowerment. Whether applied to the traditional essay form or to multimodal composition, his pedagogy is focused on writing as process and discovery and on cultivating a certain frame of mind – a desire to question and a curiosity to see and think about the world in new ways. In the classroom, Andrei foregrounds the value of seeking out novel and exciting intellectual encounters—whether with a written text, an image, song, film, or other cultural artifact—by which students can draw inspiration for a project they care about. While the act of writing itself can at times seem daunting and overwhelming, he aims to demystify that work by giving students the foundational tools and methods needed to grow from mere consumers of information to creators of it with a full sense of agency and purpose.
