Adeel Arshad is originally from Pakistan and is currently a postdoctoral researcher working with Hugo Monteiro.
He focuses on ruminant nutrition and microbiology, with an emphasis on understanding how rumen microbial communities contribute to metabolizable amino acid supply, feed efficiency, nitrogen utilization and environmental sustainability in dairy cattle. His research integrates multi-omics approaches, including metagenomics, ultra-deep dual RNA sequencing, metabolomics, bioinformatics and computational biology, to investigate host-microbiome interactions and characterize rumen microbial protein at the microbial species and protein levels.
His current research aims to develop and validate de novo approaches for profiling the amino acid composition of rumen microbial protein and improving the precision of microbial and dietary protein evaluation in dairy cattle. He also uses dual-flow continuous culture systems and in vivo studies to evaluate nutritional interventions and characterize rumen microbial metabolism under controlled conditions.
