A center for cooperative research and extension

The Northeast Dairy Foods Research Center (NDFRC) works in collaboration with dairy farmers, industry, government agencies, and University partners to pursue cooperative dairy research and extension. Our mission is to:

  1. Seed dairy innovation & entrepreneurship;
  2. Enhance the quality & safety of dairy foods; and
  3. Improve the sustainability of the dairy industry.

This is accomplished through the efforts of a network of world-renown researchers and extension agents, who grow our knowledge of dairy foods and in so doing, educate the current and future dairy workforce.  The NDFRC network provides dairy foods application and technical to support to dairy processors and start-ups, as well as certificate training programs in a variety of areas of dairy processing (Fluid Milk, Cheese, Yogurt, etc) and dairy food safety (HACCP, PCQI, etc.).  The NDFRC regularly develops and executes contract research projects, product development trials, and training programs to individual partner needs.

The NDFRC is located at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. It was established in conjunction with Dairy Management, Inc. (DMI) in 1988 as one of six national dairy centers. The NDFRC and its accomplishments over the past decades would not have been possible without the support of US Dairy Farmers.
