Cornell Cooperative Extension has named David Kay the critical issue lead for extension programming in the areas of climate change and sustainable energy, effective September 1. The appointment, envisioned as a two-year commitment, reflects CCE's dedication to addressing pressing climate change challenges and sustainable energy education. Kay will play a pivotal role in bridging campus resources with CCE educators and collaborators across the state, helping to ensure that needs are met and effective metrics for educational work are identified and reviewed.

Kay will continue in his role as senior extension associate in the Department of Global Development, where his applied research and extension programming concentrates on climate and energy, land use, community development, and regional economics. He currently serves as Department Extension Leader. Kay’s experience at Cornell spans more than 45 years and several departments. Additionally, he chairs the City of Ithaca’s Sustainability and Climate Justice Commission and the National Extension Climate Initiative.

"We are excited to have David Kay step into this crucial role," said CCE Director Dr. Andy Turner. "David's expertise and dedication will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts in climate change and sustainable energy, helping us meet the needs of our communities and make a significant impact."
