Farmers, researchers, and agricultural professionals are invited to attend a Soil Health Field Day at the Musgrave Research Farm in Cayuga County, with featured content on cover cropping in dairy and field crop systems.
The event is part of the New York Soil Health Alliance 2026 Soil Health Field Days series and is free to attend. Registration is required.
The program will kick off with cover crop and tillage demonstration plots and research plot tours from Dr. Vipan Kumar focused on integrated weed management. The afternoon program will include a presentation from Joe Lawrence of PRO-Dairy on cover cropping and forage value and a farmer panel exploring strategies for success with cover cropping in dairy rotations.
A highlight of the afternoon is the New York Soil Health Trailer, a mobile lab equipped with a rainfall simulator that illustrates how practices like cover cropping can reduce runoff, control erosion, and improve nutrient retention.
This event is co-organized by Cayuga County Soil and Water Conservation District and hosted by the Cornell Agricultural Experiment Station. A BBQ lunch is included with registration.
