Cornell University’s Soil Health Program will offer the Advanced Soil Health and Regenerative Agriculture International Certificate Course from March 10 through April 28, 2026. The eight-week course will be held virtually and is designed for agricultural practitioners, educators, advisors and students seeking advanced, science-based training in soil health and regenerative agriculture.

The international course covers soil health from foundational principles through the latest research and applied management strategies. Instruction combines live lectures, guided self-study, assessment and applied project work.

“This course is designed to connect solid soil science with practical decision-making,” said Harold van Es, professor of soil and crop sciences at Cornell University. “Participants gain the tools needed to measure, manage and improve soil health across a wide range of agricultural systems.”

Course structure

The course is organized into two sections: Principles of Soil Health and Regenerative Agriculture and Managing Soil Health for Regenerative Agriculture. Participants complete eight modules over eight weeks. Each module includes approximately two hours of lectures, three hours of self-study and assessment, and access to virtual office hours with instructors.

The course concludes with a project-based assignment that allows participants to apply course concepts to real-world agricultural or educational contexts.

Instructors

Instruction is provided by Cornell University-affiliated scientists and leaders in soil health and regenerative agriculture:

  • Dr. Deborah Aller, Director, New York Center for Organics Recycling and Education
  • Dr. Joseph Amsili, Director, New York Soil Health Program
  • Dr. Matt Ryan, Professor of Sustainable Cropping Systems
  • Dr. Harold van Es, Professor of Soil Science

Certificate and micro-credential

Participants who successfully complete the course receive a Certificate in Advanced Soil Health and Regenerative Agriculture and earn a micro-credential, recognizing advanced training and applied competency in soil health and regenerative agriculture.
