Carmen Enid Martinez
Professor, School of Integrative Plant Science, Soil and Crop Sciences Section
I am a soil and environmental chemist with interests in molecular-scale processes. My research aims to gain a mechanistic understanding of soil processes that increase our science-based knowledge of managed and natural ecosystems.
Interests
Soil biogeochemistry
Nutrient and mineral cycling
Soil organic matter
Recent Research
Broadly, my research program focuses on deciphering the mechanisms and rates of reactions that mediate elemental fate and cycling in soils. My current work focuses on several distinct yet interconnected research themes: (i) iron-nitrogen-organic matter coupled cycles, (ii) solid-solution interface phenomena, and (iii) biogeochemistry of the rhizosphere: strategies to plant nutrition and toxicity.
