Broadly, our research program focuses on deciphering the mechanisms and rates of reactions that mediate the fate and cycling of essential elements and contaminants - both inorganic and organic - in soils. Our work focuses on several distinct yet interconnected research themes that include heavy metals (e.g., Pb, Cd, Cu) and organic contaminants (e.g., glyphosate, microplastics, antibiotics, PFAS). Our studies use spectroscopy, computational methods, microscopy, and analytical chemistry approaches in experimentation. Current topics include:

• Solid-solution interface phenomena: sorption, desorption, transformations
• Iron-nitrogen-carbon coupled cycles
• Soil-plant interactions in the rhizosphere: strategies for copper (Cu) acquisition
• Contaminant behavior in soil: reactivity and fate of inorganic and organic contaminants
