Coronavirus contingency planning resources
March 3, 2020
To CALS faculty and staff:
We all have been following the news about COVID-19. Please review the Official University covid-19 website, which has updates and a FAQ section. The university and college are working on continuity planning on a broader scale but it is important for each of you to think proactively about contingency plans for your research, extension and teaching activities. Each of us needs to think about two major questions:
- What would you do if you or your program personnel become ill and are quarantined at home and cannot come to campus for two weeks?
- What would you do if the campus closed for several weeks?
Additional resources on COVID-19 curated by Chris Smart, Director of SIPS:
- The World Health Organization has named this virus SARS-CoV-2, while the name of the disease is COVID-19 (check out info at the WHO site here).
- Please find a contingency lab plan written by Richard Lenski (Michigan State University) at this link: https://telliamedrevisited.wordpress.com/2020/02/29/the-lenski-lab-health-plan-for-the-new-coronavirus-outbreak/.
- Cornell resources are available for information on preparation for possible teaching disruptions: http://theuniversityfaculty.cornell.edu/covid-19-information-for-instructors/.
- Info from the CDC https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
Importantly, please do discuss contingency planning and COVID-19 in your classroom and with your lab and office groups.
Above all, please take good care of yourself and those around you.
Best wishes,
Kathryn
