Susan Fussell is a Professor in the Departments of Communication and Information Science. She received her Ph.D. in psychology from Columbia University. She conducts research in computer-mediated communication, intercultural communication, and human-computer interaction.
Research Focus
Dr. Fussell's primary research interests lie in the areas of computer-mediated communication, computer-supported cooperative work, and human-computer interaction. Her earlier work focused on how gesture, gaze and other communication channels help people coordinate their efforts on physical tasks. Her current projects examine the effects of culture and native language on computer-mediated communication, affect in virtual teams, collaboration among intelligence analysts, tools to motivate people to reduce their energy usage, human-robot interaction, and telepresence robotics.
