Sophia Givre
Director of Inclusive Academic Advising, Office of Student Services

Sophia’s experience as a first-generation college student shaped her passion for supporting student success and making higher education more equitable. Holding a Ph.D. in Sociology from Binghamton University and certification as a Gallup Strengths Coach, she has dedicated her career to student success and developing strengths-based teams. She has taught sociology, writing, and first-year experience courses, developed DE&I training, and provided academic, personal, and career advising. Prior to joining CALS, she directed an Upward Bound Program, led a team of 40+ staff, and secured two TRIO Upward Bound grants.
Sophia Givre joined CALS in February 2023 as an Associate Director of Inclusive Academic Advising. As Director of Inclusive Academic Advising, she continues to build on her outstanding contributions to CALS Student Services. She leads the Student Services advising team, collaborates with department advisors, and focuses on student development, success, and advocacy with inclusion at the core.
In her role, Sophia works across the CALS Office of Academic Programs to address program issues, interpret policies, and support students through complex challenges. She oversees academic processes, strategic planning for undergraduate needs, and key college events for first-year and transfer students. Additionally, she implements data-informed strategies to identify and support students facing academic difficulties or distress.
