Bridging the Grand Canyon: How to Connect with Someone Whose Views are Completely Different from Yours

In this workshop, faculty and staff will learn what causes distress over social and political differences, how to manage the physical experience of that stress, and how this allows us to have a meaningful conversation with someone whose views are completely different while remaining calm and engaged.

Bathabile K.S. Mthombeni, J.D., M.S.

Bathabile is a dynamic and gifted speaker, mediator, workshop presenter, group facilitator, and coach who strives to create unique and transformative experiences for her audiences and clients. A cum laude graduate of Princeton University with an A.B. in sociology, she earned her J.D. from Columbia University, earned a graduate certificate in Leadership and Executive Coaching, and received an M.S. in Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Texas at Dallas. In addition to her work as the University Ombudsman for Binghamton University, Bathabile is the founder and principal of two companies: Untangled Resolutions, which provides mediation and organizational development services to small-to-mid-sized organizations, and Come Abide Here LLC, a company offering racial intelligence training to individuals, groups, and leaders of organizations. Bathabile is companion to her beloved pups MuShu, Mandla, Carmel, and Bambi. She is a traveler, budding YouTuber, podcaster, singer/songwriter/guitarist, and a yarn crafter who loves to perform on New York City’s subway platforms, crochet, and live in tents.
