Pre-Collegiate Summer Scholars Program (PSSP)

The Pre-Collegiate Summer Scholars Program (PSSP) is designed to support up to 200 incoming freshmen transition from successful high school students to successful college students. PSSP offers wide-ranging opportunities to prepare students for Cornell by challenging and supporting them as they develop new ways of thinking and approaching academic work. Students become familiar with university resources while interacting with other students, faculty, and staff.

The program is coordinated by the Learning Strategies Center (LSC), in conjunction with the Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives (OADI), the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment, and Cornell’s eight undergraduate colleges and schools. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) hosts weekly workshops with CALS Student Services, major department coordinators, study abroad, career, registrar, and college advisors that introduce students to their community of staff and faculty that will support their transition to Cornell University.

Participants are required to live on campus for the eight-week program (June 19 - August 7) in our chosen residential hall. Amenities include dining facilities, study spaces, TV lounges, conference rooms, computer lab, and laundry room. The program covers all tuition, fees, room, and board charges. Students are enrolled in classes geared toward their intended major to prepare them for the academic expectations they will face during their tenure at the university.

Students in attendance include New York State Opportunity Program (EOP/HEOP) students, non-EOP/non-HEOP students but PSSP-required, and students that have been invited. Admission for the PSSP program is considered by college admissions and the designated PSSP coordinator.
