Guidelines for inclusion

A SIPS News & Events newsletter is sent to the greater SIPS community by email every Monday morning and includes sections on news, recent publications, and events.

SIPS News

The primary function of this section is to aggregate and amplify news about SIPS members and their activities from the following media sources:

Cornell news: e.g. Cornell Chronicle, CALS News, BTI News

Newsletters from SIPS-affiliated media: e.g. ‘What’s Cropping Up’, ‘Appellation Cornell’, ‘Small Farms’ quarterlies

External media: Media sources should be relatively high profile or have a clear stakeholder connection. News or opinion pieces should highlight our research, outreach, and teaching on plants, soil, agriculture, or climate/environment.

Internal SIPS news: e.g. awards, new initiatives, personnel changes, internal grant RFPs written or posted by SIPS communications staff

SIPS Publications

Publications are tracked weekly for SIPS faculty, adjunct faculty, senior research associates, senior extension associates, senior lecturers, and emeritus faculty who are still conducting research. Tracking is done with Web of Science and PubMed, but new publications can be communicated directly for more rapid posting. The list of complete citations can be found on the corresponding linked page on the SIPS News Blog. Titles are included in the newsletter along with the names of Cornell faculty & senior academic co-authors.

Manuscripts must be accepted (no BioRxiv) and have a URL to which the title can be linked. Accepted publication types include research papers, reviews, books, book chapters

New publications co-authored by SIPS post-docs with non-SIPS PIs are also included to enhance visibility of post-doctoral expertise. Send URLs of recent publications to ML16 [at] cornell.edu

SIPS Events

The primary function of this section is to publicize SIPS section seminars for the forthcoming two week period. “Other events of interest” includes seminars and special events sponsored by groups within SIPS or other units at Cornell, and relevant to plants, soil, agriculture, or climate/environment. Inclusion is dependent on the space available but relevant seminars from the following units outside SIPS are typically included: BTI, Global Development, Entomology, Ecology & Environmental Biology, Department of Natural Resources & the Environment, Botanic Gardens, Cornell Institute for Digital Agriculture, and the Atkinson Climate Change series.
