Dollars and Sense of Municipal Operations

Join us to gain valuable insight on budget and cost concerns for municipal highway operations. Our experienced instructors will show you how to create and manage a budget, update it during crisis, incorporate planning and asset management, and defend the department budget when needed.

Flagging Training for Trainers and Crew Supervisors

Aimed at the folks doing the training of the flaggers, this one day workshop trains those who train the flaggers as well as the crew leaders who will be working with the flaggers. Workshop participants should have prior flagging experience.

Local Roads (and Streets) Done Right

Bring your mayor, town board, crew or supervisor to this workshop and learn what makes a good road/street and how to keep it that way. We’ll cover frost heave, drainage, sight distances, work zones, preventative maintenance vs. construction, and much more!

Pavement Maintenance

Join us to learn why pavement fails and how to choose the best repair. We’ll discuss fatigue, the pros and cons of thin wearing courses, crack repair, patching techniques, and the importance of looking beyond the actual physical failure when evaluating pavement distresses and failures.

Reducing Liability for Highway and Public Works Departments

Learn simple steps you can take to reduce your highway or public works department’s legal liability. Gain insight into how courts evaluate liability and special defenses that can be used when agencies have good plans and procedures in place.

Ever wonder what your rights and responsibilities are as a highway official in New York State? Join us to; discover your authority to limit legal risks, improve your labor and board relations, evaluate roads by use/streets by prescription, and much, much more!

Roadway & Roadside Drainage

This course focuses on the daily fight to keep water away from your pavement, covering topics such as culverts (including installation and recognizing when design assistance is needed), ditches (covering, lining, slope, and erosion), variations in soil behavior under freezing/thawing conditions or in the presence of water (from gravel to clay), and much more.

Work Zone Traffic Control for Local Roads

This workshop is aimed at established highway/public works officials, crew supervisors, and the crew members as well!

We allow a maximum of 3 people per organization to register for each workshop. If you would like to register more than 3, just let us know and we will add them to the waitlist. 

We are working with our partners to find ways to allow attendees to attend a workshop without a registration fee, but have not worked out the details yet. Typically, workshops are $60 per session per registrant. Details on any payments will be sent prior to the workshop.

Workshops typically run from 8:30am - 3:00pm and lunch will be served. Please contact us if you have any special dietary requirements.

If you need to cancel, please contact us at least 3 business days before the workshop so we may give your space to someone on our waitlist to avoid being charged for the workshop. You may substitute a coworker if you cannot attend.
