Summertime – for many it means sunshine, warmth and outdoor fun. And for the staff, faculty and students of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), it means the annual Summer Scoop.

On June 20, a steady stream of CALS faculty, staff and students joined Kathryn Boor ’80, the Ronald P. Lynch Dean, in Stocking Hall for free Cornell Dairy ice cream in celebration of another successful academic year and in recognition of National Dairy Month. Thirty-six staff volunteers worked in shifts at the 18th annual event, scooping flavors like Big Red Bear Tracks, Bavarian Raspberry Fudge, Ezra’s Morning Cup and Boor’s personal favorite, BOORange Chip.

“Visitors to Cornell always marvel at the diverse – and delicious – flavor combinations that our Cornell Dairy team creates,” Boor said. “Summer is a perfect time to take a moment to celebrate our CALS community with a dish – or two – of ice cream.”

In an effort to incorporate more sustainable practices into this year’s event, attendees were encouraged to bring their own reusable ice cream bowls. Those who did so gained access to sprinkles, whipped cream, chocolate fudge sauce and – of course – a cherry on top.
