Rose Hastings Wins the CALS Core Value Staff Award for Stewardship

November 16, 2016

Dean Kathryn J. Boor and Rose Hastings

On Monday, Nov. 7, Dean Kathryn J. Boor presented Rose Hastings with the Core Value Staff Award for Stewardship. Hastings is a grant and contract officer in the Office of Sponsored Research. Hastings has worked with faculty on over 150 projects per year, many of which arrive at her desk with little notice. While working closely this last year with the Office of Sponsored Projects, Hastings was involved in the creation of a new, more streamlined Form 10, and has participated in testing new software applications for USDA, National Science Foundation, and National Institutes of Health.

Hastings routinely reviews and approves numerous Product Testing Agreements for CALS and has coordinated some of the larger and more challenging projects in the College. She also serves as the lead for the entire proposal team, and monitors the prudent, appropriate use of funds, encouraging best practices. She has repeatedly found clever and creative solutions to complicated budgeting challenges that enable principal investigators to support the research necessary to complete a contract successfully while adhering to College, University, and sponsor policies.

The Award for Stewardship is presented to someone who demonstrates accountability in all work responsibilities; strives to implement best practices; exercises sound ethical judgment no matter how difficult the situation; and considers environmental, economic, and social impacts in decision-making.

Hastings joined 12 other CALS faculty and staff who received awards that night in different categories that highlighted the best and brightest of CALS. Learn more about the winners here.
