Patterson Farms, Cayuga County, and Tonya Van Slyke, Northeast Dairy Producers Association Executive VP, received PRO-DAIRY Agriservice Awards presented by Cornell CALS PRO-DAIRY Director Dr. Thomas Overton, PRO-DAIRY Associate Director Karl Czymmek, and NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard Ball during the Dairy Day Recognition and Awards Ceremony at the Great New York State Fair on August 29.

These awards are given in appreciation and recognition of outstanding contributions to NYS agriculture through support of PRO-DAIRY.

“This year’s recipients, a farm and an agriservice professional, join a distinguished list of award winners who are chosen for their close involvement and collaborative partnership with many of the applied research and educational programs in PRO-DAIRY,” said Dr. Overton. “We appreciate and respect their leadership and service to PRO-DAIRY and the broader agriculture industry. They are examples of the best of what the New York dairy industry has to offer.”

Connie, Jon, and Julie Patterson, Patterson Farms, have been committed participants in many of the applied research and educational programs of PRO-DAIRY, especially related to environmental sustainability. The Pattersons are industry leaders, active with Northeast Dairy Producers Association and New York Farm Bureau, and a role model for other farms. They are always willing to open their farm to educate and support others, most recently hosting the North American Manure Expo, held on the East Coast for the first time in July. The Expo offered two jam-packed days of tours, demonstrations, education, and networking, focused on the latest and greatest in manure management solutions and technologies.

Tonya Van Slyke, Northeast Dairy Producers Association, accepted the 2024 Agriservice Award from NYS Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball, PRO-DAIRY Director Thomas Overton, and PRO-DAIRY Associate Director Karl Czymmek.

Under Van Slyke’s leadership, the NEDPA Board of Directors and staff have become a powerhouse representing the dairy industry. Van Slyke has been a staunch advocate and strong supporter to develop and expand industry programs, including PRO-DAIRY and the Cornell Agricultural Workforce Development Program, and a true partner on many industry initiatives.

PRO-DAIRY’s mission is to facilitate New York State economic development by increasing the profitability and competitiveness of its dairy industry. PRO-DAIRY specialists have made a positive impact on the technical knowledge, management skills and economic strength of New York State’s dairy industry since 1988.
