Cornell IPM Brand Guide
The Cornell IPM brand allows us to more fully celebrate the strength of our connection to Cornell CALS and Cornell AgriTech while enabling us to strengthen our brand recognition and build awareness of our groundbreaking work.
About Cornell Integrated Pest Management
Cornell Integrated Pest Management serves as a trusted expert in the management of pests and pesticide safety everywhere New Yorkers live, work, learn and play. Through innovative research, education and outreach, we make safe and sustainable pest management accessible. As a program of Cornell CALS, our work aligns with the college’s mission and our brand identity reflects the foundational elements of the Cornell CALS parent brand, including several major components of the college’s visual identity, such as its color palette, typography and photographic style.
We advance research and education on options to manage pests while protecting human, environmental, and economic health.

Guidelines for Using Our Name
How we refer to ourselves depends on our audience.
Internal
Internally, among familiar audiences of faculty, staff, and interns, use Cornell IPM or, simply, IPM.
“Insiders”
When addressing “insiders” in education, industry and media, refer to us as Cornell IPM. It will help connect us directly to the college.
External Audiences
When writing for external audiences that may or may not be familiar with the program, including grant administrators and mainstream media outlets, always use our full name: Cornell Integrated Pest Management or Cornell University’s Integrated Pest Management Program upon first reference. Upon second reference, you can refer to us as Cornell IPM.
Cornell IPM Wordmark
The Cornell IPM wordmark or its variations should be used in all official Cornell IPM communications.
The wordmark has been carefully set with specific letter spacing and typographic details, and should not be recreated by simply typing it out. However, the program name may be typed out when used in a paragraph of text.
Wordmark configurations
Our wordmark is available in three configurations, each with four color variations and multiple file formats. Choose the appropriate version based on your layout and spacing needs.
Important: Do not modify or recreate these wordmarks. Each configuration has been carefully designed for clarity and consistency. Use only the official files available for download on this page.

Primary configuration downloads
Use this version by default unless size or clear space requirements prevent it.
Choose PNG for digital use (web, presentations, social media)
- Color—Primary configuration (png)
- Black—Primary configuration (png)
- White—Primary configuration (png)
- Red—Primary configuration (png)
Choose EPS for print materials (brochures, posters, handouts, signage). Our wordmark will look best in print if the EPS version is used. When choosing a color version, use CMYK for most in-house and standard print projects. If you're working with a professional printer, they may request PMS (Pantone Matching System) colors for more precise color matching.
Horizontal configuration downloads
Ideal for situations where vertical space is limited or when the primary configuration becomes illegible at smaller sizes.
Choose PNG for digital use (web, presentations, social media).

Wordmark usage guidelines
Color Variations and Backgrounds
The wordmark is available in four color variations to ensure maximum legibility across different backgrounds and production methods.
Color Variations
- Color – Use on white or very light backgrounds for full-color applications.
- Black – Suitable for black-and-white printing or when color is not an option.
- White – Designed for placement on dark backgrounds or images with strong contrast.
- Red – Use on white or very light backgrounds for a bold, high-contrast look.

Background Considerations
- The wordmark should only be placed on approved CALS colors or photos with sufficient contrast to maintain legibility.
- For light backgrounds, use the color or red wordmark. If selecting a background color, choose a light shade from the CALS primary palette or a subtle, uncluttered image.
- For one-color printing or when color options are limited, use the black or red wordmark.
- Ensure strong contrast when placing the wordmark on a colored background or image.
- Follow online accessibility standards to confirm sufficient color contrast for readability.
Clearspace
To maintain legibility and visual integrity, always leave a margin of clear space around the wordmark. Use the height of the capital “I” in IPM as a guide to ensure proper spacing around the wordmark.

Size Requirements
To ensure legibility in print and digital applications, the wordmark must meet the following minimum width requirements:
- In the primary and horizontal configurations, "Cornell IPM" must be at least 1.5 inches (200 pixels) wide.
- In the vertical configuration, "Cornell" must be at least 0.75 inches (100 pixels) wide.

Brand architecture–using the wordmark with other wordmarks and logos
For official communications and printed assets, the Cornell IPM wordmark can be displayed as the leading wordmark, but should not stand on its own; it should exist in proximity to the university seal locked up with the Cornell CALS wordmark for all official communications and print design applications.
See the CALS Brand Architecture page for guidance on locking up the University seal with the Cornell CALS wordmark and information on accessing those logos.
The wordmark may also be used with the Cornell AgriTech wordmark. In these instances, use the same treatment for the Cornell CALS and Cornell AgriTech wordmarks and a distinct configuration for the Cornell IPM wordmark.
Space-sharing
When space-sharing, distinguish the Cornell IPM wordmark from other CALS-brand wordmarks by pairing different configurations and color variations.

Wordmark Don’ts
Always use the provided wordmark artwork and avoid any unapproved variations, rearrangements, or distortions to the wordmark.
- Do not combine lockup with the CALS-Cornell seal lockup.
- Do not modify, stretch, deform, warp or rotate.
- Do not recolor or outline.
- Do not use drop shadows or other image effects.
- Do not break or rearrange wordmark elements.
- Do not violate minimum clear space.
- Do not overlay the wordmark onto exclusively secondary CALS colors.
