My name is Grayson Barnes and I am a Microbiology PhD student in the Helmann Lab. I joined the Helmann Lab in August of 2023 after graduating from Virginia Tech with a Bachelors in Biological Science (go Hokies!). In the lab I study how Bacillus subtilis buffers free zinc and copper ions within the cell. Outside of the lab I love reading, crocheting, and spending time with my cat Meeko. After graduating I hope to pursue a career in industry.
