Ph.D. Candidate, Development Sociology
Prior to coming to Cornell, Ryan worked for the UNDP-IPC in Brasilia where he worked on policies related to local food procurement and family farming.
His professional and academic work has focused on agriculture and rural development as key to: 1) policy design and implementation of food procurement strategies for local/rural development and; 2) the politics and role of public scientific research in the development of national agriculture.
His current research focuses on the history and politics of agricultural research in Brazil centered around the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), drawing on Science and Technology Studies (STS), the Sociology of Development and Critical Agrarian Studies.
