Research development services for individual faculty and research teams 

For Pretenured Faculty 

  • Proposal Development Assistance: Receive personalized help with crafting, refining and submitting research proposals, including feedback on drafts and tips for meeting funding agency requirements.
  • Funding Opportunities: Explore various funding sources, including internal grants and external fellowships, and get assistance with the technical elements of grant applications. 
  • Grants Workshops: Participate in workshops designed to develop grant-writing skills and provide an understanding of funder interests and priorities.

In collaboration with Cornell's Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Development, RIO actively researches and advertises a wide range of federal and foundation funding opportunities that align with the strengths and interests of CALS faculty. Our training programs are designed to elevate your grant-writing skills at every career stage. Limited Submissions Coordination

CALS faculty can feel at ease navigating the campuswide limited submissions process with RIO's streamlined support. We liaise with the limited submissions administrators on your behalf and support the preparation of competitive proposals. Our goal is to make the internal application process as smooth and efficient as possible.  

Special Initiatives

RIO oversees special initiatives and seed funding programs for Cornell CALS, including the annual Moonshot Seed Grant Program, offering additional avenues for research funding and innovation. 

Concierge Service

RIO's personalized concierge service is designed to meet with early-career, pretenure and new-to-CALS faculty to assess your research interests and develop targeted funding strategies. We assist in performing funding opportunity searches and identifying potential collaborators or resources to enhance your research endeavors.

Research development, OSR and OSP working together

RIO's research development services catalyze capacity-building activities, research collaboration and pipeline growth, which complements the administrative management of proposals by the CALS Office of Sponsored Research (OSR). RIO works closely with Cornell's central research development team in the university's Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP).
