Through March 31, 2022 Cornell Botanic Gardens, Nevin Welcome Center 124 Comstock Knoll Road, Ithaca, NY 14850
An exhibit in the Nevin Welcome Center, “Ecological Calendars: Finding Hope in the Face of Climate Change,” brings together art, photography, prints, and interpretive displays to express the ways in which Indigenous and rural communities around the world are adapting to disruptions caused by the climate crisis. The exhibit illustrates the value and impact of the Ecological Calendars and Climate Adaptation Project (ECCAP), which investigates how climate-driven shifts in ecological patterns, such as first snowfall or the emergence of specific plants, adversely affect farmers, fishers, herders, hunters, and orchardists who rely on these patterns for timing planting, harvesting, and similar subsistence tasks.
Explore this collaborative effort and its positive impact in the Nevin Welcome Center or online, through:
- Two commissioned sculptural installations
- Interpretive displays explaining how Ecological Calendars help sustain communities facing increasing uncertainty due to global climate change
- A photographic narrative of the ecological calendars research project
- Prints of ecological calendars developed at each research site
