Application for restarting research now available

Dear CALS Faculty,

As announced on Saturday, CALS has developed a specific template for the collection of faculty lab restart plans and the new “Research Lab Reactivation System” is now available. PIs who direct laboratory research that is eligible for reactivation (see below) must apply to restart research, even if their lab had been approved previously for essential research.

If you oversee projects that have been approved via the critical seasonal research request process and they do not include laboratory access (e.g. all work occurs in the field or in a greenhouse setting) they do not need to be included in the laboratory reopening application unless you wish to enable laboratory access for those staff members. All faculty in units shared with CALS (i.e., from Arts and Sciences and Human Ecology) are requested to submit restart plans using this template.

Before starting your application online, please ensure the following steps have been taken:

  • You have carefully read the “reactivating research and supporting operations” report that is located on the Cornell website.
  • You have determined your research program is eligible for reactivation because it falls within phase one criteria as issued by Governor Cuomo (i.e., is your research related to health and disease, agriculture/food, national defense, or is in support of other essential businesses?)
  • You have reviewed the list of questions contained in the Research Lab Reactivation System and answered them first in a Word document that you have saved for future reference. You cannot save a partially completed application in the template and return to it later.
  • Please do not plan to return to your lab until you have received email confirmation that your application has been approved. Approval times will vary, and you will also be able to track the progress of your application via the online system.

Questions: for technical questions about your online application, please contact launch_support [at] cornell.edu (Launch Support). For non-technical questions about this process, please contact cals-comm [at] cornell.edu (subject: Question%20about%20my%20research%20lab%20reactivation%20application) (CALS Marketing and Communications).

Ready to begin?
Log into CALS LaunchPad and look for the “Start Research Lab Reactivation” icon under the Cornell header to begin your application.

A reminder: Before returning to campus per university guidance, everyone will need to complete this training: EHS Return To Work Health and Safety Training for COVID-19. Spots are limited. Please sign up for the training.

Thank you,
Kathryn
