Bo Wang
Assistant Research Professor, Biological and Environmental Engineering

Bo Wang is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to start his lab in 2024, he worked as a research scientist at AstraZeneca, Inc. and received training in biomaterials in Dr. Minglin Ma’s laboratory. His research integrates protein engineering, synthetic biology, chemical biology, and biomaterials to understand and rewire the biomolecular machinery in living cells to tackle some of the biggest challenges in public and ecosystem health in the 21st century.
Recent Research
It has been established that the immune system is not only indispensable for health maintenance, but also one of the most conserved biological systems across the history of evolution. From complex species such as vertebrate animals and plants to simple species such as bacteria, the immune system is always essential. The Wang laboratory is working to understand and reprogram this critical system for solving complex problems in human and ecosystem health, with three main areas of research: dissecting how the immune system responds to different stimuli, manipulating the biomolecular machinery in various immune cells to improve their function, and developing novel systems approach to promote collaboration between different immune cells. The long-term goal is to promote sustainable development by improving human health and building a more robust agri-food system.
