Rowan Lopez ' 26

Rowan is a Marine Biology concentrator and plans to attend graduate school to continue studying marine organisms and evolution. Rowan is a member of the Babonis Lab, where he studies the evolution and development of sea anemones and their stinging cells. Outside of research, he is a volunteer with the Cornell Raptor Program, is a member of the Rawlings Research Scholars and Biology Scholars Program and is a mentor through the College and Career Readiness Initiative. Rowan enjoys playing music on his flute, embroidering, and playing D&D in his free time. His favorite class for the bio major has been BIOEE 1780: Introduction to Evolutionary Biology and Diversity with his overall favorite course being Greek Mythology. Rowan stayed in Ithaca this summer as a member of the Choose! Development Program for the Society for Developmental Biology. He conducted field research for part of the summer before continuing lab work with the Babonis Lab.

His advice to freshmen:

“Don't be afraid to step outside your major! Follow your interests and take the classes you're excited or curious about! It doesn't matter if something isn't directly related to your career goals, if a class or club interests you, take the opportunity to get involved! ”
