Julie Moehringer ' 26

Julie is concentrating in General Biology and plans to take a gap year and then attend medical school. In her gap year, she hopes to continue her research endeavors and also gain clinical experience. During her summers, Julie has worked with an ENT at Manhattan's Eye, Ear, and Throat hospital to do research in preperimetric Glaucoma patients and monitor the health of the retinal ganglion cells. She has also been a part of a neuroimaging lab studying the effects of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) on patients with schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety. This summer, she worked with an Orthopedic surgeon, specializing in Hip and Groin at Northwell’s Lenox Hill Hospital, to draw comparisons between patients with Osteoarthritis (OA) and Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). Julie is a part of the Ophir Lab on campus, an integrative neuroethology lab. Her focus is on understanding the mechanisms by which early life adversity can permanently alter neuroendocrine responses to environmental stressors that are experienced later in life. Julie is the Vice President of Recruitment for Phi Delta Epsilon, a medical fraternity on campus. She is also a member of Mediocre Melodies, Sigma Delta Tau, and Big Red Ambassadors. Off of campus, she volunteers at Cayuga Med in her free time. Julie loves listening to music, hanging out with friends, going for a run, and trying new restaurants. She cherishes her free time and uses it to relax and rest since Cornell is such a busy environment.

Julie’s words of advice to incoming students:

“Try not to compare yourself to other students. Cornell is a large school full of so many intelligent students, and you are one of them! You deserve to be here. Take a deep breath and keep doing what you are doing! :) ”
