Ja'Onni McLerkin '26

Ja'Onni is a new student advisor with a concentration in General Biology, she plans to attend medical school after graduation. In the summer following freshman year, Ja'Onni completed the Weill Ithaca Summer Experience in Research (WISER), where she worked in the Immunology and Microbiology lab of Dr. Kirk Deitsch, studying P. falciparum protists. This summer, she plans to shadow a pediatrician and a radiologist, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Ja'Onni is an active member of the Biology Scholars Program (BSP, Pre-Professional Program (P3), and a member of the Black Student Ensemble, the first Ivy League Majorette Dance team! For fun, Ja'Onni likes to dance, read science fiction novels, go to the movies, and listen to music.

Ja'Onni’s words of advice to new students:

“Don't be afraid to reach out to those around you when seeking advice! Transitioning into college is hard, but luckily, many people have done it before you and are more than willing to share their experience with you and give advice. ”
