Nola Rettenmaier ’23

Nola is concentrating in Genetics, Genomics & Development with plans to attend graduate school and pursue a PhD after graduation. On campus, she has worked at Cornell Botanic Gardens, served as a study group leader for the Biology Scholars Program, participated in research at the Lee Lab, and TA’d for BIOMG 2800 (Lectures in Genetics and Genomics).  Nola also conducts research at the Specht Lab (CALS) and the Hybrid Body Lab (CHE) and is part of the Humanities Scholars Program.  For fun, she enjoys reading, sewing, exploring Ithaca, plant parenting, and spending time with dogs.  Nola's favorite classes so far have been CHEM 3600 and GERST 2700: Intro to German Culture and Thought.  This past summer, she worked in the OUB as an admin assistant and continued research in the Specht Lab and Hybrid Body Lab.  As an SA, she loves freshman planning meetings and interacting with new students.

Nola’s words of encouragement for new students

“Don’t hesitate to ask for help; attending office hours and being able to approach TA’s and even professors if you don’t understand something is one of the best ways to ensure your success in a course.”
