Guiding Eyes for the Blind

Guiding Eyes for the Blind (GEB) is a national organization dedicated to raising, training, and providing seeing eye dogs for those with vision loss. GEB dogs help their future handlers gain greater independence in their day-to-day lives, and simultaneously inspires others to help make these life changing connections possible.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind at Cornell is a club on campus that works directly with the national GEB organization, specifically the Fingerlakes Region. The club hosts fundraisers to raise money and awareness for GEB at Cornell and the national organization, provides a network of sitters for dogs being raised in the region (prioritizing sitters for Cornell dogs), and raises GEB puppies!

People with a passion for dogs and public service are encouraged to get more involved with GEB at Cornell!

GEB at Cornell participates in many events over the semester, in the form of pet-a-puppies. Generally, anyone can come to pet-a-puppies to interact with handlers and pups! Beyond attending pet-a-puppies, there are a few tiers of involvement.

General Body Member: Anyone can join the organization as a Gbody member! Joining the GEB listserv gives you access to our email updates, merch sales, and sitter point system. To join the listserv, look out for a QR code at any GEB events, or ask anyone you see handling a dog for it if you don’t see it.

eBoard Member: Anyone in the Gbody can run for an eBoard position! All of the positions are voted on by G-body members except for president and vice-president. Elections are held at the end of Fall semester, and elected officers shadow the current position holder during the Spring before taking over the following Fall.

Puppy Sitter: GEB at Cornell has a sitter selection process for those interested in becoming puppy handlers! Sitters are chosen based on 2 criteria- event attendance and familiarity. Everytime you come to an event, there will either be a QR code, or you can give any person handling a dog your NetID. Every event you attend = 1 point. It is also really helpful if you introduce yourself to our E-board members and dog raisers. At the end of the semester, the applicants who have the most points, who are most recognized by eBoard and raisers (aka who took the time to talk to E-board and raisers and distinguish themselves), and the most engaged people are offered positions as Sitters. If you are not selected at the end of the semester, your points will roll into next semester! If you are selected, you start onboarding at the beginning of next semester. Puppy sitting is flexible based on your preferences and a really great option if you are looking for puppy time without the commitment of raising a pup full time.

Puppy Raiser: If you would like to raise a future seeing eye puppy for Guiding Eyes, GEB at Cornell would love to have you! In order to become a raiser, you must first spend at least 1 semester as a Puppy Sitter. Once you have completed the sitter semester requirement, the regional GEB management team will help you move forward with the raising process.

No! We do not have any fees for club members.

We have monthly general body meetings, just join the listserv for dates and times. To join the listserv, look out for a QR code at any GEB events, or ask anyone you see handling a dog for it if you don’t see it.
