Alyvia Lewter
Assistant for Land-Grant Affairs, Office of Land-Grant Affairs
Alyvia (Lyv) Lewter serves as an Assistant for the Office of Land Grant Affairs. In this role, Alyvia researches various topics related to agricultural, environmental, youth development and food policies, coordinates events and meetings, and attends events as a representative for the office. She is a key contact for Cornell CALS and Cooperative Extension employees seeking information about New York State. Alyvia has a keen interest in agriculture, nutrition and food policies and connecting communities throughout the state with Cornell CALS work.
Before entering this role, Alyvia worked as the Legislative Analyst and Agriculture Committee Clerk for New York State Senator Michelle Hinchey. As a Legislative Analyst, she was responsible for tracking legislation through the state senate and assembly, helped draft legislation, and met with key stakeholders and constituents on various topics. While serving as a Committee Clerk, Alyvia was responsible for coordinating the meetings for the Senate Agriculture Committee and tracked all legislation that went before the committee. Prior to joining Senator Hinchey's Office, Alyvia worked as a Scheduler and Committee Clerk for the Senate Agriculture Committee. Alyvia has federal experience from her time serving as US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s Regional Assistant for Long Island and the Hudson Valley. In this role, Alyvia served as a representative for the Senator at events and meetings across the region, coordinated press conferences, and updated the Senator on various key issues within the region. Alyvia also served on Senator Gillibrand’s 2021 Military Academy panel. While on the panel, she helped interview candidates for military academies and then advised the Senator on her nominations to the academies.
Alyvia has an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Nassau Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in International Criminal Justice from CUNY John Jay College.
