CALS Core Value Staff Awards

Overview

Core Value Staff Awards will be given to individuals and/or teams that demonstrate outstanding contributions to the college through the exemplary incorporation of one of the Skills for Success outlined by the university. Nominations can be for a special project or initiative, for lifetime achievement, or for exemplary service.

Nomination packages should stress what you feel are the candidate’s strengths. With this in mind, use the following categories extracted from the Skills for Success as a general guide:

  • Communication
  • Inclusion
  • Initiative
  • Integrity
  • Judgment
  • Growth
  • Vision

There is no need to indicate a category in your cover letter because, after reviewing all nominations, the committee will assign each top candidate to a skills category that they deem to be the best fit. Team nominations should include only the individual staff members who are integral to the team (not faculty or students).

Note: The CALS Core Value Staff Award Review Committee has the option to grant an Unsung Hero award. The awardee can come from a pool of nominees or be nominated by the committee—either case will require the dean’s approval.

Individual awards come with payment of $1,000, and team awards come with payments of $500 per individual or a maximum of $2,500 shared equally among all team members.

How to Nominate a Staff Member

To nominate staff for a CALS Core Value Staff Award, please provide the following documentation:

  1. A cover letter that includes:
    • Summary of the achievements for which an individual or team is being nominated
    • Name, title, and department of nominee/s
    • Name(s) and signature(s) of nominator(s)
  2. A minimum of four and maximum of six letters of support (may include letters from stakeholders)
  3. Nomination materials should be submitted in one document, preferably a PDF document. Please submit the nominations no later than Thursday, June 20, 2019 to Bonnie Ferguson.

Eligibility

The award is open to all regular full- and part-time CALS staff members not currently serving on the Awards Review Committee. Current membership includes Cally Arthur, Leah Cook, Alex Garcia, Jessica Townley, and Andy Vail. 

Anyone in the CALS community may submit a nomination, including staff members, faculty members, graduate students, or undergraduate students. Nominees must be regular full- or part-time CALS employees on the deadline date for package submission (June 20, 2019).
