About
Maria Boa Alvarado is passionate about transitions towards climate-resilient and sustainable food systems.
Before joining Cornell, Maria worked as a Scaling Coordinator for CIMMYT’s Sustainable Agrifood Systems program. She researched and facilitated participatory processes in Latin America, Africa, and South Asia. In addition, she also was a visiting researcher for the Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security Program (CCAFS). Currently, Maria is a member of the board of the Agriculture and Rural Development working group of the Scaling Up Community of Practice.
She earned her B.S. as Manager of Natural Resources from Marist University of Merida (2012) and her joint M.Sc. in Rural Development from Wageningen, Gent, and Humboldt Universities (2016).
