Pride and gratitude for our community this week

March 20, 2020

Dear community,

This morning a colleague shared with us a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr. that, with a minor addition, we now will share with you:

"The ultimate measure of a man (and woman) is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

The COVID-19 pandemic is probably the biggest challenge our communities will face in our lifetime.  We are proud and grateful for how the AgriTech community has responded decisively in meeting the goal of social distancing. This is the primary strategy that will dampen the spread of COVID-19 and provide our health care system the chance to treat those who will require care. We are equally proud of how many of you have continued to provide the campus-based work required to sustain our long-term research and facility assets. College and AgriTech leadership are working to ensure everyone can engage in meaningful work during this period and to plan for field research tied to the growing season ahead. While circumstances continue to evolve, we will continue to provide updates in the coming weeks.

Food is fundamental to all of us and Cornell AgriTech plays a key role in supporting and sustaining our food system.  COVID-19 has highlighted how important food systems are and their vulnerabilities. We are committed to playing a leadership role for years to come in supporting the well-being of New Yorkers and our State’s farm and food economy.

If you would like to refer back to communications from Cornell AgriTech or the college regarding COVID-19 at any time, I encourage you to visit this website. You can also view university communications for faculty and staff here.

Thank you for all you are doing as valued Cornell AgriTech employees. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions or concerns.

Be well and take good care of yourselves.

Best wishes,
