Install a Network Printer on a Personal PC

If you have a personally-owned PC, follow the steps below:

Windows 7

  1. Go to the Start button and click on ‘Devices and Printers.’
  2. Click on ‘Add a Printer.’
  3. Click on ‘Add a Local Printer.’
  4. Click the button for ‘Create a new port’ and use the drop down menu to choose ‘Standard TCP/IP Port.’  Then click ‘Next.’
  5. Type the IP address that was provided to you by our IT group where it says ‘Hostname or IP Address.’  The ‘Port name’ information will auto-fill on its own.
  6. Windows 7 will attempt to determine what type of printer you are connecting to.  If it cannot, try clicking the ‘Windows Update’ button on the following page to search Microsoft’s library for one.
  7. Failing that, you may need to manually download the appropriate driver from the manufacturer’s website to have ready and begin the process again.

Windows 10 instructions:

1. Go to the Start menu and click Settings

 

2. Click Devices.

3. Click Add a Printer or Scanner

4. Click on ‘The printer that I want isn’t listed’

 

5. Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings and click Nect

 

6. Click the button for ‘Create a new port’ and use the drop down menu to choose ‘Standard TCP/IP Port.’  Then click ‘Next.’

7. Type the IP address that was provided to you by our IT group where it says ‘Hostname or IP Address.’  The ‘Port name’ information will auto-fill on its own.

8. Windows 10 will attempt to determine what type of printer you are connecting to.  If it cannot, try clicking the ‘Windows Update’ button on the following page to search Microsoft’s library for one.
