Bed bugs and mosquitoes are threats to human, animal and livestock health. On July 12, 2011, Cornell entomologists Judy Gangloff-Kaufmann and Laura Harrington briefed legislators on the latest research into these two common insects, which are spreading discomfort and disease at alarming rates.

Inside Cornell: Analyzing the words of psychopaths
Using computerized text analysis, Cornell professor of communication Jeff Hancock and colleagues at the University of British Columbia found that psychopathic criminals tend to make identifiable word choices when talking about their crimes. Hancock and UBC professor of psychology Michael Woodworth discussed the implications of their study at the October 17, 2011 Inside Cornell session at Cornell's ILR Conference Center in Midtown Manhattan.

Climate Change and the Future of New York
David Wolfe talked about vulnerabilities of the New York landscape due to climate change, including increased flooding and pest pressure, as well as strategies for adaptation and mitigation at the September 20, 2011 Inside Cornell session at Cornell's ILR Conference Center in Midtown Manhattan. Wolfe is professor of horticulture and chair of the climate change focus group at the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future at Cornell University.

Akwe:kon 20th anniversary
Cornell University's American Indian Program celebrated the 20th anniversary of Akwe:kon, its innovative student "living-learning" residential program house on September 9, 2011. Akwe:kon is a Mohawk word meaning, "all of us." It is a crucial part of the American Indian Program's student support, providing culturally based programming while mentoring respectful community engagement.
