H1N1 Influenza Alert

Cornell University is working closely with health department officials to monitor the spread of the H1N1 influenza. All members of our community are being asked to take common sense personal health precautions to protect themselves and others from possible infection. If you have recently visited an area affected by the H1N1 flu, closely monitor your health for seven days, and if you develop flu symptoms, immediately call your primary care provider, your local health department or Gannett Health Services.
At this time, University events are proceeding as planned. We will update the website if there is a change in status.
We are aware that visitors and members of the community may have public health questions. For updates and current information on Cornell’s response to the emerging flu epidemic, please visit: http://www.cornell.edu/emergency/flu

The CALS Senior Associate Deans office is asking that every department to update their emergency contact information. Please fill out the following form and mail it to Senior Associate Dean Jan Nyrop at jpn2@cornell.edu.
CALS BSC Emergency Options to procure goods:
1. In an emergency, our department may need to purchase essential supplies or animal feed in excess of $500. How would we do this?
The CALS Business Service Center (BSC) has p-cards with higher limits and can be contacted to purchase items over $500. Contact either Donna Bunce at dlb9@cornell.edu or 607-351-6661 (cell phone) or Lisa Tvaroha at lbt2@cornell.edu or 607-227-3967 (cell phone) and provide them with the ordering information.
The BSC will remain operational during emergencies. Information on how to contact the BSC will be available on the CALS website. Many regularly purchased goods are set up with blanket orders, so a high-limit p-card may not be required. If you would like to establish blanket orders for regularly purchased items or potential emergency items, please contact your BSC representative.
2. Should I use e-SHOP in an emergency when Cornell is closed?
We do not recommend using e-SHOP in an emergency situation. In some instances Departmental approval is required on e-SHOP orders. In an emergency situation, these approvers may be unable to access their computers to approve the orders and the orders would not get placed. Individuals should use their pcard for orders under $500. The BSC will remain operational during emergencies and should be contacted if: you do not have a pcard, need to place an order over $500 or if general assistance is needed. Information on how to contact the BSC will be available on the CALS website.
