Job Description
- Assist FAO Members in the identification, formulation, and implementation of plant production (including seed policy and seed systems) and protection development programs and projects
- Ensure that plant production and protection is adequately integrated into the work of the Multidisciplinary Team
- Conduct periodic reviews and appraisals of the current plant production and protection situation in the Sub-region, through studies and surveys
- Provide technical backstopping to projects dealing with the strengthening of plant production and plant protection in the Sub-region
- Act as focal point for Sub-regional plant production and protection programs
- Prepare technical documentation, papers, and training material
- Act as focal point for information exchange and support for national and sub-regional training on actions required for the support and the implementation of relevant international conventions and agreements
- Contribute to and participate in the planning and execution of FAO regular program activities on plant production and protection and support FAO gloabl and regional plant production and protection programs
- Liaise with academic / research institutions and "centres of excellence" in the Sub-region and with national, regional, and sub-regional institutions, organizations and bilateral assistance agencies in order to promote sub-regional cooperation in plant production and protection
- Plan, organize, and participate in sub-regional meetings, conferences, and seminars dealing with plant production and protection
- Perform other related duties as required
Job Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in one of the following: Agriculture, Crop Protection, Plant Sciences, or a closely related field
- Seven years of relevant experience in crop production / agronomy and crop protection, preferably including the main crops of Central Africa
- Working knowledge of English and French
Selection Criteria:
- Extent of experience in crop production / agronomy and crop protection in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Extent of experience in project / program formulation and implementation in crop production and protection and in implementing programs and studies and in providing policy advice at local, national, and sub-regional levels
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and synthesize scientific information
- Ability to prioritize tasks and deal promptly with urgent issues
- Ability to organize and conduct technical meetings, conferences, and workshops at community, national, or sub-regional levels
- Knowledge and understanding of the work of international organizations and national governments
- Negotiating and advisory skills, excellent oral and written communications skills (ability to write concise reports)

89,103 - 111,718 (without dependants) or 95,684 - 120,662 (with dependants)
